In order to standardize and improve the selection process for inductees into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, the 15-member Board of Directors includes representatives from the following golf organizations within the state:

  • Texas Golf Association
  • Women’s Texas Golf Association
  • Southern Texas PGA
  • Northern Texas PGA
  • The Pan American Golf Association
  • At Large Directors

A Nominating Committee for Hall of Fame inductions will be created from all of the above categories plus the following:

  • Two male and two female former Inductees of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame
  • The Texas Golf Hall of Fame Curator/Historian
  • A representative of the Texas Golf Writers Association

Nominations can be made by the general public, Texas Golf Hall of Fame members, golf organizations, golf administrators and members of the media by visiting www.texasgolfhof.org.  A preliminary screening will determine nominee qualification and the Nomination Committee will determine which nominees will be voted on by the Members.

Membership Categories

Professional Player

A successful candidate has resided within the boundaries of the state of Texas for a minimum of ten (10) years, during which time he/she competed and was active as a member of the PGA Tour, the Senior PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, the European PGA Tour or any other tour deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.  Certain exceptions apply in cases where injury or illness have contributed to loss of playing time.

The candidate must have competed on said tour for a minimum of ten (10) years and have won a minimum of four (4) regular events or one (1) major championship and two (2) regular events.  Candidate must be at least forty (40) years of age or deceased.

Professional Player elections are limited to one person per year.

Amateur

A successful candidate must be a native Texan or have resided in the State of Texas for a period of no less than ten (10) during their competitive career.  The candidate shall be no less than forty (40) years of age or deceased.  Amateur candidates should have competitive experience in junior, collegiate, regular amateur or senior events including two (2) state championship titles or one (1) national championship title.  Amateur candidates should also have been top ten quarter finalist, semi-finalist, or finalist finishes in regional or national competitions i n order to qualify for national or international team competitions.

Amateur elections are limited to one person per year.

Professional/Club Teacher

The successful candidate must be a former member of the PGA of America or the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals for a minimum or ten (10) years and be a current resident of Texas or deceased.

Consideration will be given to those individuals who have served on the Board of Directors of their respective organizations or have been recognized for their teaching or other talents or have otherwise demonstrated a high degree of commitment to the sport of golf.  Candidates shall be no less than forty (40) years of age.

Professional/Club Teacher elections are limited to one person per year.

Pioneer

The Pioneer Category as been created to recognize and honor persons who competed or have served the sport.  The Nominating Committee decides on the criteria and nomination of potential candidates.  Candidates must be native Texans or have resided in the state for a minimum of ten (10) years.

Pioneer elections are limited to one person per year.

Distinguished Service

The successful candidate must have, by virtue of name recognition, brought honor, distinction, and favorable attention to Texas golf.  The candidate must have served in an organization at a community, state, or national level and have contributed to the fostering of Texas golf, Texas golfers or the Texas golf industry.  The candidate must have been a Texas resident for a minimum of twenty (20) years and must be at least forty (40) years of age or deceased.  The honoree shall be selected by the Nominating Committee with no ratification by the Membership.

Distinguished Service elections are limited to one person per year.

Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses

The objective of the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses is to raise awareness and honor the role that golf courses and gold architecture play in the growth and history of golf.  Selection of the golf courses will be made by members of the Nominating Committee.  The general public is encouraged to make nominations.  Courses must have either 9 hole or 18 hole layouts and must have been in continuous operation for a minimum of fifty (50) years.

Courses must have been the site of a major championship, one or more State Amateur Championships and a collegiate or junior tournament and have been the first country club or public course to serve a specific area.

If the Nominating Committee deems it appropriate, a sub-committee made up of course architects and course superintendents or other industry leaders may be consulted in order to identify appropriate candidates.

Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses elections are limited to a maximum of two (2) courses per year.
