Biography
Massengale won the Southwestern Conference Championships as a Texas Christian University Horned Frog in 1958. That same year he also won the Texas State Amateur title.
Turning pro in 1960, Massengale won two regular PGA Tour events, the 1966 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am and the Canadian Open. His regular PGA Tour earning totaled $193,877. Don left the tour and held club jobs at Elmwood CC (White Plains NY), River Plantation CC (Conroe TX), Harlingen (TX) CC, and the Club Del Lago, also near Conroe. Don won the National Club Professional title in 1972.
Old golfers don’t fade away, they find new life on the Champions Tour. As a Senior Tour rookie in 1987, Don Massengale played in 20 events and earned a top five finish at the U.S. Senior Open, plus a tie for 10th in the Mazda TPC.
Massengale won his first Senior Tour event in 1990 and added another in 1992.
