Shady Oaks was built by Marvin Leonard to be a prestigious club for a small membership.

Mr. Leonard also built Colonial and Starr Hollow.

Ben Hogan was a founding member of the club and spent almost every day of his life, when in town at the club. He loved it and stated upon its opening that "Shady Oaks is special and that there was no place like it anywhere, this one is my pet" Shady Oaks remains dedicated to Mr. Hogan's legacy and has an impressive collection of memorabilia displayed in his honor. Shady Oaks is the home to the Ben Hogan Foundation honoring him in many ways through charitable donations and scholarships.

The following SOCC members and Associates are members of the TGHOF: Marvin Leonard, Ben Hogan, Bruce Develin, Lindy Miller, Marty Leonard, John Grace, Dan Jenkins, Chad Campbell Mike Wright, and Angela Stanford.

Shady Oaks currently has eight successful PGA and LPGA tour members on the membership roster: Chad Campbell, Angela Stanford, Martin Piller, Gerina Piller, So Yon Ryu, Su Oh, Cheyenne Knight, and Kim Kaufman.

Shady Oaks hosted the 2008 USGA US Senior Amateur Championship and the 2014 TGA Senior Amateur Championship. The club has hosted almost every NTPGA major event, approximately 20 USGA qualifiers, numerous TGA qualifiers, the Mountain West Women's Championship, annually hosts the Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches and the Fort Worth City Junior Championships.

Shady Oaks is a players club. With 500 members with golf privileges the club has over 20 zero or plus handicap amateur golfers, another 46 players with a handicap of five or less and 78 more between six and nine totaling almost 150 single digit amateur players.
